Laila Textiles was founded in the Spring of 2018 by textile artist Liz Mortensen (she/her). Laila began as a creative project for Liz to explore the movement of slow fashion through natural dyes. Liz considers herself a life-long learner & forever on the journey of learning more about natural dyes and the world around her.
Emilka Wolniewicz, MFA (she/her) is a Polish-American teaching artist, writer, and researcher. She is primarily a fiber artist working in traditional and digital weaving practices, embroidery and embellishments, stitching, and handbag construction, as well as collage, coding, and video work. At large, her practice investigates consumer culture and she uses craft and fashion as a response to her research.
Emilka Wolniewicz holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago within the Fiber and Material Studies Department. She teaches fashion courses with SAIC Continuing Studies as well as instructs fiber workshops in art and educational settings.
