Paper Marbling with Claire Reynes (February 13th Class)

Join Claire Reynes in discovering the magic that is paper marbling. Marbling is a process that involves floating paints on liquid size to create patterns that are then transferred onto a porous surface. Each participant will have their own marbling vat where they will play with color and explore endless design potential to print onto paper.
Workshop will cover:-
Preparation of marbling materials including paints and paper

Application of paint to marble bath

Basic patterns including stoning and gel git

Participants will marble several sheets of paper and a small canvas pouch to take home

Instructional packet for at home marbling

Location: Laila Textiles Studio at N Kedzie Ave & W Carroll Ave in East Garfield Park (exact address & access information will be emailed to students).

Accessibility Information - Our Studio is located on the second floor and is only accessible through a flight of stairs.

Claire Reynes, currently based in Portland, Maine, is an artist, educator, and owner/operator of Tempered East, a marbling and papermaking studio. Claire takes a contemporary approach to marbling, curating fresh color palettes, and creating playful patterns and imagery. She prints designs on paper and fabric, as well as some wearables like hats and bandanas. Her personal artworks are also a celebration of color and draw inspiration from the rich textures and subtle palettes of nature.
