Meet Liz

Laila Textiles was founded in the Spring of 2018 by textile artist Liz Mortensen. Laila began as a creative project for Liz to explore the movement of slow fashion through natural dyes. Liz considers herself a life-long learner & forever on the journey of learning more about natural dyes and the world around her.

Over the years our Clothing Brand Laila has grown to much more than a creative project. Laila is now the go-to boutique for a unique trendy sustainably made apparel, accessories & home goods. When we aren't hand dyeing our own goods in windy Chicago, IL - we are curating unique & responsible brands that aline with our values.

In the Summer of 2021 we started teaching natural dye classes in our tiny Chicago front yard. Soon after Laila Textiles quickly evolved to be not only a clothing brand but also a natural dye education company.

The Laila Textiles Studio was born the following summer of 2022 when we moved into our first creative studio. Today, we host weekly creative workshops that introduce people to the world of natural dye and various art mediums.

Meet The Studio

The Laila Textiles Studio

A funky old candy factory turned dream creative studio. Where our goods are hand dyed, sewn, and designed - aka where the natural dye magic happens. Our studio is also the home of our creative workshop space & where you can take monthly creative workshops.

Our private studio is only open during workshops and special events. Email us hello@lailatextiles.com to book a private shopping appointment.

3144 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

Meet The Garden

In the warmer months you can find us tending to our Natural Dye Garden. We are proudly apart of our local neighborhood community garden in Garfield Park, Chicago. We grow several of the dye plants and flowers that are used to dye our apparel & accessories. All plant and food material used for dye in our studio is composted and returned to the earth through rich soil for future plants.
